British rock climbing star Johnny Dawes has paid tribute to the rescuers who went to his aid following an accident in the Peak District.
Earlier this year, members of Edale Mountain Rescue Team helped rescue the climber after a fall at Stanage Edge had left him with a serious open fracture to one of his legs. He was later flown by air ambulance to hospital and underwent surgery to repair the damage.
At the recent Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, Johnny came face to face with members of the team when he dropped by the Edale stand, along with another well-known mountaineer, Jamie Andrew.
Johnny said: “I am so grateful to Edale Mountain Rescue Team for the way I was treated and cared for at the time of my accident and if it was not for the skills of the team I could have lost my leg. I will always be in debt to the team.”
