Rescues set record for Peak team
EDALE Mountain Rescue Team had their busiest weekend in almost four years when they were called to five rescues over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon they assisted a 28-year-old climber from Brighton who had fallen about three metres while climbing Stanage Edge, sustaining injuries to his chest and lower back.
He was flown to hospital by the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).
Soon after the team were called to another injured climber at Birchen Edge near Baslow. A 42-year-old from Sheffield had fallen, injuring his abdomen and pelvis. After treatment on scene he was also taken to hospital by the DLRAA.
On Sunday lunchtime the team were called to an incident on Bleaklow. The team paramedic helped a 14 year old girl who had broken her ankle before Glossop MRT carried her to a waiting ambulance. She was taken to Tameside Hospital.
The Edale team were then called to another climber at the Burbage North crag near Hathersage. The 26 year-old man from Sheffield had a nasty open fracture of his ankle. He was flown to Sheffield's Northern General Hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The final call was to a 58-year-old man from Milton Keynes who had fallen while climbing at Froggatt Edge. He had head and ankle injuries and was flown to hospital in Chesterfield by the DLRAA.
The volunteer team spent around 160 man-hours dealing with the incidents at the weekend.
