Rebecca set for African adventures
A TIDESWELL teenager is appealing for help to make a gap year dream become a reality.
Adventurous Rebecca Baraona has been selected to care for disabled children and teach at a school in Uganda as part of a year-long visit organised by Project Trust — a charity helping young people find voluntary work overseas.
Now 17-year-old Rebecca is on the lookout for a kind-hearted business or individual to offer funding for the charitable trip, which will take place next August and cost a total of 4,950 — excluding personal equipment, medical injections and a Visa.
The Lady Manners School sixth form student has organised numerous events to raise pots of cash for the year out — but she is in need of another 2,120.
Kind-hearted Rebecca said: "I want to make a difference to youngsters in Uganda.
"I will teach during the school day, care for disabled children in mornings and evenings and cook with the locals.
"The living conditions will be basic with erratic running water and electricity supply."
Rebecca added: "With 2,120 still to raise, I am seeking a business or individual who would be willing to sponsor me.
"In return I would be very happy to give a presentation or a talk on my experiences — to one or many people — and give advice to other young people planning a gap year."
Rebecca plans to raise extra cash for the visit by organising additional fundraising events, including a mobile car washing service and a sponsored sky dive.
The A level student was picked to go to Uganda by the Project Trust following a challenging selection course which was held on the Isle of Coll, on the west coast of Scotland, in April.
