Quarries put £200k back in community

HIGH Peak organisations are among those who are set to benefit from funding totalling more than £200,000 from the Derbyshire Aggregates Levy Grant Scheme (DALGS).

The awards have been made to 12 groups and organisations who operate in communities directly affected by the quarrying industry.

Among the groups being supported are:

• Buxton Civic Association — 23,000 for the new lighting in Poole's Cavern

• Peak District National Park Authority — 12,869 for the Black Harry Trails Project in the Stoney Middleton area

• Dove Holes Community Association — 5,780 for reconfiguring the central heating system

• Harpur Hill Playground Action Group — 39,175 for creation of a multi-use games area for joint school and community use

• St Paul's Church, Dove Holes — 7,700 for a replacement heating system

• Dove Holes Methodist Church — 9,900 for re-plastering of the gable end wall and re-painting.

Councillor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: "The DALGS scheme enables us to put money back into communities that have been affected by certain types of quarrying.

"This funding has gone to the heart of the local community, providing facilities that will benefit a wide range of people."

The Derbyshire Aggregates Levy Grant Scheme was set up with funding raised by the Aggregates Levy for the benefit of communities affected by the quarrying of sand, gravel and crushed rock.
