Police talk man down from bridge

THE CENTRE of Buxton was closed to traffic on Wednesday evening after reports of a 22-year-old man threatening to jump from the viaduct.

Police were called to the scene at 5.56pm and officers spoke to the male, who also had a knife, amid fears for his safety.

A negotiator arrived on the scene and the male, believed to be local, was talked down before being detained by police at 7.21pm.
