Path to nowhere

A BUXTON town centre footpath, which has been closed for 15 months, looks set to remain out of action for the foreseeable future.

The High Footpath on the A6 Bakewell Road was closed by Derbyshire County Council (DCC) in November 2011 because of safety concerns caused by overhanging trees - many of which were diseased or dead and caused parts of the wall bordering the path to collapse.

In June, the road was closed for two weeks so DCC could remove the trees, but the footpath has remained closed, and will stay shut until the wall can be made safe.

DCC, who sold the land to a private owner for £10,000 in 2008, have already spent £8,400 on legal fees trying to get the owner to take remedial action.
