WHALEY Bridge’s new vicar, the Reverend Margaret Jones, will be welcomed to her parish with two parties today, Saturday, December 1 - one at her induction in St James’s Church, Taxal, and the second at Holy Trinity on Buxton Road.

After eight months without a priest, the Bishop of Stockport will induct the Rev Margaret as priest in charge of the parish.

The congregation will then travel down to Holy Trinity for a more informal celebration with tea and cakes.

On Sunday, Margaret will take her first services at Holy Trinity.

Moving from Altrincham, where she has been associate vicar of two churches, St George’s and St John’s, Margaret was a teacher for more than 20 years before she was ordained eight years ago.

She has three children and four grandchildren.

She said: “Teaching was a vocation, but I always wanted to do this job (the priesthood).”

Margaret has already seen the garden at the new vicarage in Whaley Bridge, just across the road from Holy Trinity, and although December is not the best time to start she is looking forward to gardening there. She enjoys walking, and being with her grandchildren.
