A national retailer moved into Buxton on Sunday, creating nine new jobs.

Trespass, which has taken over unit 22/23 in the Springs Shopping Centre, is the eighth outdoor shop to open in the town.

The two-storey shop, which replaces Burton which closed down in October, is the fifth outdoor clothing store on Spring Gardens.

Buxton store manager said the opening had gone well and the shop was “very busy”.

A spokesman for the Glasgow-based brand, which has more than 100 stores across the UK, said: “Trespass is fast becoming the ‘go-to’ place for all your outdoor gear.

“Trespass can kit you out in our latest waterproof jackets, suggest a range of accessories from walking boots to rucksacks, and our knowledgeable staff can introduce you to a wealth of fashion and performance clothing suited to you and your family, whether you’re outdoors, skiing, hiking trails or just commuting to work.

“Trespass honestly believe in ‘access for all’, bringing you high performance products at great value prices for everybody. We are currently offering all Trespass branded stock at 50 per cent off while stocks last.”

The news received mixed feedback from High Peak residents on social media.

Sharon Light posted on Facebook: “Trespass should have gone into one of the empty units leaving Burtons where it was.”

Zoe Tilson commented: “To be honest, it’s great that it’s not an empty shop, but come on, we need a clothes shop that sells reasonably priced clothes. There’s too many charity shops. We need a Primark.”

And Michelle Pilkington added: “Charity shops, cafes and outdoor clothing shops! People wonder why Spring Gardens is not thriving like it used to be. I encourage shopping local but when there’s nothing to shop for going to Stockport and Manchester is much more appealing.”

While Fergal Zunt tweeted: “A mix of shops would be better than just outdoor wear and coffee shops.”
