New music block officially opens

A NEW £1 million state-of-the-art music suite has been officially opened at Hope Valley College.

The block, which includes a performance area with a retractable stage, four practice rooms, a PC suite and a recording studio, was opened by Councillor Joyce Sanders, Chair of Derbyshire County Council.

Principal Bernie Hunter said: "This facility with its recording and digital capabilities allows for an even wider engagement in music by students."

Dignitaries from the county council, representatives from Lafarge, governors and members of the Parent Teacher Association attended the opening event, which included performances by the college wind band and Year 11 student Jack Parrot.

Central government provided 500,000 towards the new facility, with the county council and the college providing 400,000 and 100,000 respectively.
