New Mills put its shirts on Glossop at Wembley

WHATEVER THE result, the FA Vase has already proved a winner for one High Peak company.

Glossop North End take to the Wembley pitch this Sunday to contest the FA Vase final against north east side Whitley Bay. And as well as being the High Peak's representative in the prestigious non-league competition, the team will be promoting the area in another way – by wearing kits made in New Mills.

As Glossop progressed through the competition, businessman Garry MacLaren spotted an opportunity and approached the club about the possibility of his company, Rad Sheep sportswear, making their kit.

The club soon agreed and Garry and his team, who are based at Redmoor Mill on Buxton Road, have been working flat out over the last few weeks to make sure the team, and their fans, look their best when they step out onto the hallowed Wembley turf.

"We approached Glossop before the quarter final stage and offered our services," explained Garry.

"We did the quarter final home shirts, then did the semi-final away shirts and then they put a massive order in for all their fans.

"And we have made the actual kit they will play in at Wembley."

Garry founded Rad Sheep just over four years ago and the company now supply kits to several sporting teams across the country, covering a wide range of sport from lacrosse to ice hockey, cricket and even school sports teams.

He added: "We also do the kit for New Mills football club and Buxton rugby club and it is great for us as a local business.

"We have local staff and want to work with local teams.

"Hopefully if New Mills get promoted and Glossop win the cup we will be able to get involved with other local teams."

And for one member of Garry's staff, Nigel Metcalfe, the game will be extra special as he'll even be able to say he's helped make the shirt he'll be wearing at Wembley when he goes to support his team Glossop on Sunday.
