New Mills Parade and Fete 2009 - PICTURE GALLERY
FLOATS inspired by The Blues Brothers, Grease and Michael Jackson's Thriller ensured New Mills Parade and Fete hit the right notes on Saturday.
The grey skies and wet weather failed to put off the crowds who saw a music theme enthusiastically embraced by those taking part in the ever-popular procession – which this year saw all six local primary schools take part.
New Mills Primary celebrated disco, St Mary's Catholic Primary School won the best float with Michael Jackson's Thriller, Newtown Primary went back to the 1970's, while St George's Primary School were inspired by the film Grease with Pink Ladies and T-Birds.
Youngsters from Hague Bar Primary School had the wheels on their bus going round and round while Thornsett Primary had a Bollywood theme which even included an enormous elephant.
A larger number of community groups and organisations took part this year with High Peak Community Housing, New Mills Volunteer Bureau, the youth club and junior footballers all joining the fun.
The United Co-op New Mills Band led the parade and were joined by Hey! Samba, the Northenden Pipe Band, the Phoenix Musketeers Showband and the Anvil Street Drummers.
