New attractions expected to be a hit in Chapel

HOPING for good weather this weekend are organisers of Chapel-en-le-Frith Carnival, who have introduced a series of new events to this year's festivities.

A week of events will take place following the carnival on Saturday.

As always the parade will feature a host of floats, fancy dress characters, bands and royalty from across the area.

The procession will leave Buxton Road at 1pm and wind its way through the town on one of the longest routes in the High Peak, making its way through Town End, along Market Street, Manchester Road, Long Lane and Rowton Grange Road, before finishing at the Memorial Park.

Here there will be a parade of royalty and the crowning of the 2009 Chapel Carnival royalty.

There will be various attractions, side stalls and fairground rides.

New for this year is a Carnival Band Contest in the park, set to feature the bands who appear in the procession.

Caroline Gregory, Chairman of the Carnival Committee, said: "Please support the various new events over the week and lets keep the carnival tradition going."

The events during the rest of the week are to be held at various venues throughout the town and are sure to include something for everyone."
