Mystery man who paid for mum's fuel in Buxton found

The kind-hearted stranger who paid for a single mum's fuel when she forgot her bank card has been found.

The Advertiser was contacted by Hannah Stanton after a Good Samaritan saved the day at the Esso Garage on London Road at the end of last month as she wanted to find him and thank him.

Alex Mackenzie, from Stables Lane in Harpur Hill, was the man in question.

The 41-year-old was on holiday in Cornwall when his mum rang him saying the young mum wanted to find him.

He said: “She told me I was a wanted man in Buxton and at first I didn’t know what she was on about.”

Alex paid for the woman’s fuel as well as treats her daughter had picked up.

He said: “I was behind her in the queue and could see she was already having a tough time and then when she hadn’t got her bank card she was so distraught.”
Hannah was making an emotional journey to see her grandma for the first time since her dad died at Christmas, as it was her little girl’s second birthday.

Alex said: “It wasn’t much only £17 pounds, it might have been a different story if it was £80!

“I could see she was genuine and it was only after I read her story did I realise just how much she was going through.

“It wasn’t much but it helped her out and I just hope that if my wife was in the same situation someone would help her out.”
