The Children and Families Minister visited High Peak this week to meet councillors, the local workforce and parents involved in the CANparent trial.
Edward Timpson MP spoke to parents in a CANparent class, Bringing Up Children run by Derbyshire County Council at the New Mills Adult Education Centre.
The class is part of a government trial offering all parents and carers of children aged 0-5 in High Peak a £100 parenting classes voucher. The Minister said: “Good parenting and a stable home life is vital if today’s children are going to grow up to be tomorrow’s responsible citizens.
“I want all families to be able to access and benefit from parenting classes if they choose, creating a culture where seeking help to strengthen parenting skills is the norm.
“We cannot underestimate the importance of this. That’s why this Government is investing in parenting and relationship support.”
Nige Caldwell, General Manager of High Peak CVS, who are supporting the trial said: “We are really pleased to be at the forefront of this new initiative bringing welcome resources to parents of young children in the High Peak!”
The CANparent network will be running a series of roadshows throughout the High Peak including on Friday, November 30 at Mr Clown’s Funzone in Hadfield 10am-1pm and at Jungle Monkeys in New Mills 10am-1pm on December 11.
Parents are invited to go along and find out more about the trial and classes and support available are times to suit them including daytimes, evenings, weekends and online.
