May Queen Annie

VOTERS were spoilt for choice when they were asked to pick Hayfield's May Queen.

Four girls came forward after the only candidate to originally stand for election withdrew her application.

In a poll on Saturday Annie Hallam was chosen as May Queen she will be joined by Anouska Manion who topped the poll for Princess and Rosebud Holly Howard.

Barbara Ramwell, May Queen Secretary, said: "We would like to thank all the girls who took part and if they want to try again next year they would be very welcome."

Organisers were pleased how many villagers braved the snowy weather to take part in the vote and enjoy an exhibition of photographs taken at previous May Queen events.

The theme for the 2009 May Queen Festival on May 9 is The Sea. So if you would like to decorate your shop, pub, house or street, enter a scarecrow, float or the fancy dress competition, start planning early.

To register your theme or to volunteer to help contact Barbara Ramwell on 01663 744471.
