Long wait for bus pass users in Peak
Bus users across the High Peak and Derbyshire have been left to wait for their new concessionary passes due to manufacturing problems.
Derbyshire County Council has admitted there were delays in getting passes to around two per cent of the 156,000 people in its Gold Card scheme because of a problem transferring card holders’ information to the manufacturer.
Ian Davies, of Buxton, applied for a renewal of his Gold Card in October, however when it hadn’t arrived in February, he contacted High Peak Borough Council – a partner in the scheme. The 65–year–old said he was told many cards had to be reordered due to the problems.
“I don’t know why they didn’t tell people,” he said.
A county council spokeswoman said the issue only affected a minority of cases.
“We estimate we have around 185,000 Gold Cards to reissue and so far we have had more than 156,000 requests for new cards and given the scale of the renewal, the take up rate is encouraging,” she added.
“The majority of card holders received their renewed cards within the anticipated three week deadline.”
