KING'S SCHOOL: Bumper set of GCSE results for High Peak students

The Macclesfield school celebrated another bumper year.

Around 60 per cent of all grades were A*/A, up from 57 per cent last year, and more than 85 per cent of grades were A* - B, up from 83 per cent last year.

Eleven pupils achieved nine A*s or better, five students achieved an amazing 11 A*s; 84 students achieved an A* in at least one subject with a quarter of all grades at the school at the top A* grade.

King’s School Headmaster Dr Simon Hyde said: “We are delighted with King’s academic results, but take just as much pleasure from our young people’s fabulous success outside the classroom.

“King’s not only offers academic excellence, but a whole host of amazing opportunities for young men and women to explore their own potential and to develop the skills needed to succeed in the wider world.”

High Peak students celebrating success included Head Girl Lauren Hayward, 16, from Buxton, who got a stunning 11 straight A*s and wants to study overseas.

Becca Austin, 16, from Whaley Bridge, got ten A*s and one A and wants to be an army doctor, while Georgina Boden, 16, from Combs, who got nine A*s and two As, wants to work abroad.

Other high-achievers included: Callum Evans, 16, from Whaley Bridge, four A*s, six As and two Bs; Molly Bessell, 16, from Whaley Bridge, eight A*s and three As; Grace Heywood, 16, from Kettleshulme, two A*s and eight As; Duke of Edinburgh award-winner Hannah Wilcock, 16, from Buxton, seven A*s, three As and an A hat in further maths; rugby player Luke Smith, 16, from Buxton, two A*, seven As and one B; Liberty Kirk, 16, four A*s, five As and one B; Siraj Lyons, 16, from Chapel-en-le-Frith, five A*s, four As and two Bs.
