Buxton’s judgement day has almost arrived - as the town bids to win the Great Town 2014 title.
A panel of experts will be arriving in town next Wednesday, ahead of judgement day next Thursday, when they will be looking at what makes the town special.
The visit is part of the town’s attempts to beat Cork and Hastings for the award, which is run by the London-based Academy of Urbanism.
Buxton’s bid has been drawn up with the emphasis on what locals have achieved - and continue to achieve - in shaping its future and people are being urged to do their bit to make sure the town stands out on the big day.
“It would be wonderful if all the shopkeepers could continue the great efforts that made the town look so good throughout the summer,” said Janet Miller of Buxton Town Team and organiser of the Buxton Spring Fair.
“High Peak Borough Council will be mowing the grass and giving the roads an extra sweep, so if we all pick up an extra piece of litter in the run-up to the day it would be a great help.
“Please shine up a street or shop sign, buff up your brass plate, and make sure your hanging basket is full of blooms.”
