Popular and much-loved Carl Buxton, 20, sadly died on Bakewell Road in the early hours of Tuesday, April 19.

At Chesterfield coroners’ court on Tuesday morning, coroner James Newman said Mr Buxton, who lived on Sherwood Road in the town, ‘fell into the road’ and into the path of an oncoming van.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident just after 2.30am and Mr Buxton was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Mr Newman.

Police closed the road between Morrisons supermarket and the roundabout near the Wetherspoons pub while collision investigators examined the scene and recovered the van.

Mr Newman said: “I urge witnesses or anyone with information about this incident to call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.”

Mr Newman added he was awaiting post-mortem results to ascertain the cause of Mr Buxton’s death and a police file.

He adjourned the full inquest to a provisional date of Wednesday, October 26.

Flowers and emotional messages have been placed at the scene of the tragedy.

One of the messages reads: “RIP Carl. Gone but never forgotten.”

Another: “Sleep tight, little bear.”

One of the notes describes him as an ‘angel in the sky’.
