Hope's magnificent seven

SEVEN sporting hot-shots from Hope Valley College have netted places on the North Derbyshire Netball team.

Grace Black, Bluebell Evans, Bryony Pullman, Harriet Wingfield, Rebecca Winterbottom, Elsa Pullman and Anna Wright were selected for the academy side after being put through their paces during testing trials.

Principal Bernie Hunter said: "It would be a great achievement for the college to have one representative on the area netball team, let alone us having seven – it is truly staggering.

"It is a credit to the hard work our PE staff put into the training and development of our young athletes, and a testament to what can be achieved by hard work and dedication on the behalf of the youngsters."

The girls are currently attending two training sessions a month with the North Derbyshire side, as well as playing competitive matches against other regions.

Year 11 student Anna Wright said: "We are all really enjoying it. We are making new friends and learning new skills while improving existing ones.

"We are playing against some great players and having a really good time."

Head of PE Rob Moxon added: "Gaining selection to the area squad is a great opportunity and arena for the girls to gain recognition and get noticed.

"It is a fabulous place for them to improve and further develop their skills as well to play at a higher level. It's a chance for them to meet new people and improve as netball players at the same time."
