High Peak trio set to hit the piste for charity
Three High Peak friends are preparing for a charity challenge with a difference.
Malc and Deb Thompson, from Whaley Bridge, and Angela Timothy, from Kettleshulme, will each attempt to ski the vertical height of Mont Blanc in one day and collectively, they hope to ski the height of Mount Everest. The trio will fly out to La Tania in France on Sunday, and undertake the challenge on March 20 to raise money for the Ski 4 Cancer charity, which provides days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
Angela, 64, is taking part in the challenge in memory of her close friend and work colleague, Penny Jones, who sadly died from a brain tumour in April last year. Penny had taught at a number of schools in the area including New Mills High School and Chapel-en-le-Frith High school.
Deb, 57, lost her great friend and mentor Norman Taylor to the disease last year. They had formed the T Squad together (Thompson/Taylor) and spent hours running in the Derbyshire hills and all over the country, including nine London marathons. She also lost her father last year to the disease. Malc, 60, has been fighting leukaemia for several years.
