Help NHS watchdogs on service

PEOPLE in the High Peak are being invited to get involved in a new health and social care watchdog being set up to ensure local residents receive high quality services.

Recruiting is underway for up to 12 people to become members of the executive board of Healthwatch Derbyshire, which is a new independent service set up by the Government.

From April 2013, Healthwatch will improve how local people can influence, challenge and get involved in the planning of health and social care services including hospitals, GP surgeries, care homes and care at home.

Healthwatch Derbyshire will: collect information about residents’ experiences of health and social care and make sure they’re considered when services are planned and delivered; provide information to help people choose and access services and put people in touch with an independent complaints advocate if they’re not happy with the NHS service they receive.

Executive board member duties will include: developing a delivery plan and approving and managing a budget and resources; recruiting a staff group and volunteers and working with them to carry out board functions and attending meetings with health and social care commissioners.

Anyone who is 18 or over and lives in Derbyshire or anyone who uses health and social care services in the county can apply to join the board.

For full details, contact Dianne Thomas on 01691 682300 or 07598 229959 or email dianne.thomas@exactconsultants.co.uk.

The deadline for applications is December 3.
