Helicopter search after overdose fear

A POLICE helicopter was brought in as officers in Buxton faced a race against time to locate a man who was believed to have taken an overdose.

They had first been contacted at about 3.26pm on Thursday (June 25) following reports that a man had crashed his car into a vehicle belonging to an ex-girlfriend before driving off.

Later he called her to say he had taken an overdose and police were again alerted.

Officers, who were now growing increasingly concerned for his welfare, brought in the force helicopter. He had by this time left his vehicle and was found on Kent's Bank Road running towards Tesco's.

The man from Runcorn, was detained under the mental health act and was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital where his condition, on Friday, was described as stable.
