A Hadfield author has created a male version of Bridget Jones, who is to feature in a book released next week on the perils of dating.
Dating.com, by Paul Fox, is a man’s take on the singles scene and follows the escapades of Simon, a recently divorced middle-aged journalist.
The semi-autobiographical account shows its protagonist exploring 21st century dating techniques with a combination of enthusiasm and urgency in his quest for a partner.
He tries and tests dating websites, speed dating and singles holidays and consequently encounters an array of unsuitable women including an optimistic geriatric and a schizophrenic ex-model.
The 54-year-old writer, now in a relationship, said: “I realised that while there were many books about single women looking for love, the new Bridget Jones being a good case-in-point, there wasn’t much out there presenting a male account of the experience. “And I was intrigued by the current boom in ‘grey’ divorces, and wanted to explore the subject from a middle-aged perspective. I suppose you could call Simon the male Bridget Jones.”
Dating.com, Paul’s second book, goes on sale on Tuesday via Amazon.
