Further development would be “a step too far”

PLANS to further extend a converted barn were unanimously rejected by councillors with one describing it as “a step too far”

The comments from Cllr Emily Thrane were made as members of High Peak Borough Council’s Development Control Committee determined an application for Noon Sun Barn at Brookbottom, New Mills.

An earlier extension, approved in 2008, increased the property’s size by 60 per cent.

The new proposals would result in the barn becoming more than 100 per cent larger than the original property - inappropriate in the green belt.

Plans to extend the domestic curtilage were also rejected as it would be an encroachment of residential development into the green belt.
