First class fun at Furness

A COLOURFUL scarecrow competition was just the ticket for visitors to Furness Vale Station at the weekend.

For the third year running, the Friends of Furness Vale Station held the competition which attracted a wide range of entries.

And on Saturday, the group was joined by other volunteers from the local community to carry out improvements to their local environment.

They planted new specimens in the garden created at the station and organised a litter collection on the platforms.

The activities were part of the CSV Action Earth campaign supported by Morrisons supermarkets.

The Friends' group is one of a number set up across the High Peak made up of volunteers who work to improve their local station.

In addition to Furness Vale, friends groups have also been set up in Whaley Bridge, New Mills and Chapel-en-le-Frith.
