The first phase of a development, which will involve building 91 homes in the former Dorma Works in Chinley has been approved by the council.
Wainhomes NW and Innovation Forge’s application for the Forge Bleach Works, on Forge Road, was granted outline consent for up to 182 houses by High Peak Borough Council in May.
At a development control meeting last Monday in Chapel-en-le-Frith, councillors voted in favour of the proposal, in accordance with officers’ recommendations, which will include 27 affordable houses, an office building and a creche.
Blackbrook Cllr Audrey Bramah said she was “disappointed”, adding: “I will never come to terms with the fact that access was granted to this site. DCC Highways wouldn’t adopt it, but they passed it!
“What a nightmare traffic and parking in Chinley will be on the completion of this development. We’d also hoped for a footpath on Buxton Road for pedestrians from the development to school, this was turned down by the inspector at appeal. She said it couldn’t be justified in the 106 agreement, probably meaning the maintenance of it.”
