Factory leaves Disley after 64 years operating

Today marks the end of an era for a Disley factory as it ceases production in the town after more than 60 years.

Fibrestar Drums is closing its premises in Redhouse Lane, Disley, in order to move to a larger site at Hazel Grove.

All staff will transfer to the new site as part of the move.

Colin Pardoe, Managing Director at Fibrestar Drums, said: “We’re very proud of our long history in Disley, which dates back to 1949.

“Over the years we’ve grown to supply a wide range products and we now require a larger, fit–for–purpose facility in which we can take forward our exciting expansion plans.

“We’re pleased to be remaining a part of the Cheshire business community, with our move to nearby Hazel Grove, and I’m very grateful to our staff – the majority of whom have been with the business for over 25 years – who are all making the move with us. We’re looking forward to celebrating further milestones with them in the future.

“The move to new premises is a significant milestone for the business as we gear up for a new phase of growth, delivering some major benefits including cost savings, a more efficient layout and vastly improved access.”

The business specialises in fibre drums, and will increase its capacity by almost double to 110,000 sq ft at the new Stockport facility.

When the business was first established at the end of the 1940s it had 60 staff.

It now produces more than 10,000 fibre drums a week used for transporting and storing a range of hazardous and non–hazardous products. It turns over in excess of £6million a year.
