Ex-district councillor dies

A FORMER councillor and High Peak Parliamentary candidate has died, aged 92.

Nora Scott, of Devonshire Road, Buxton, passed away at Macclesfield Hospital on Sunday, December 30, after a short illness.

Mrs Scott became a district councillor in Disley in 1967, and served until 1974. She also, at that time, ran for Parliament in the High Peak.

Born in rural Northumberland, she became a top-flight classical violinist and was giving public concerts, including on the BBC wireless, from the age of 18.

In 1944, she married the Reverend James McIntosh Scott and had two children. Her husband passed away in 1991.

The funeral service is on Thursday, January 10 at Macclesfield Crematorium at 2.40pm. Enquiries to RW Percival on 01298 23056.
