Dramatic rescue as air ambulance lands in Buxton street

AN AIR ambulance made a dramatic landing in a street to save a man trapped underneath a wall.

Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) crew made the emergency landing on Granby Road, Fairfield, last Thursday.

Reports suggest the 56-year-old had been demolishing the wall when it collapsed and trapped him.

He struggled to breathe until fire and rescue teams removed the wall.

The man is expected to recover after being treated for lung injuries and a dislocated shoulder in Wythenshawe Hospital.

Steve Porter, Air Operations Manager for DLRAA, said: "To land on a road takes an accomplished pilot and precision.

"Our crew are incredibly skilled and used to landing in the most awkward and varied positions to ensure that care can be given to patients as quickly as possible."
