Local fundraisers Joyce and John Shacklock were guests of honour at the official opening of the new-look Co-operative store in Whaley Bridge.
The Buxton Road shop has undergone a £310,000 transformation, with Joyce and John on hand to cut the ribbon at a special event last Thursday.
The couple are well-known in the area having raised thousands of pounds for charity through Daniel’s Light, an organisation they founded in memory of their son.
The new-look, state-of-the-art store will focus on meal ideas, healthy, fresh foods and essentials. It has been redesigned to make it easy and enjoyable for shoppers to pick up all the ingredients necessary to produce fantastic food, with ideas and tips on every aisle.
The in-store bakery is being increased, and there will be extended ranges of fresh produce, ready meals and pizzas. The store will also be a community hub with information about local events, and details about how groups can benefit from The Co-operative Membership’s Community Fund, which distributes monies to support local good causes.
Store Manager Nicola Hutchison said: “I’m excited about welcoming customers into the new-look store, which will offer a completely different shopping experience.
“The Co-operative is a community retailer, and so we are committed to playing a real role in local life. I’m delighted to have welcomed Joyce and John into the store to share in our special day, and to raise awareness of the great work they do.”
