Countdown to New Mills fun

THE URBAN Gypsies are just one of the groups entertaining crowds at Saturday's New Mills Parade and Fete.

Joining them, in what organisers promise is the biggest line-up ever, are bands and performers including the Phoenix Musketeers Showband, Northenden Pipe Band, the Anvil Street Drummers, Hey! Samba and the ever popular Billerettes.

For the second year running, there will also be a birds of prey demonstration of the Fete Field following the procession through the centre of the town on Saturday, June 6.

The event begins with entertainment on 'the Prom' on Market Street and the Grand Parade commences at 1pm.

Floats, bands, dance troupes, carnival royalty and individuals and groups in fancy dress will form a grand procession.

The theme for this year's event is 'Music', which should provide great inspiration for costumes and float designs, as well as for entries into the event's scarecrow and best dressed pub, shop, establishment and house competitions.

The parade will go along Market Street, down Union Road and up Albion Road to Newtown Recreation Ground (behind Swizzels Matlow), where the Fete will take place throughout the afternoon.

Full details on the event are contained in the Parade and Fete Programme, which is on sale at shops and businesses throughout the town.

It's not too late to get involved, as those who would like to enter the fancy dress or best dress pram or bike competitions can simply turn up on the day.
