High Peak residents and businesses have rallied round to help after a Buxton charity was left counting the cost of mindless vandalism.
Three vehicles belonging to Buxton Volunteer Centre were damaged while parked on Buxton’s Market Street car park last month, leaving the charity facing repair bills of several hundred pounds.
But since then, the organisation, which helps elderly and disabled people get out and about, has been overwhelmed with help and support from locals to help pay for the damage.
Howard Gunn, Transport Manager at the Volunteer Centre, Buxton, said: “It truly is amazing the sense of community in this town.
“The generosity of local people and organisations is fantastic.
“These donations have enabled the repairs to be completed with no cost to the services we provide .
“Despite the disappointment of the damage occurring in the first place, it is really satisfying to know that the whole community has rallied around to support us.”
Howard added that the Volunteer Centre, Buxton would like to give special thanks to Buxton Rotary Club, who have donated £300 for the repairs and also volunteer every year at Buxton Summer Club, providing a volunteer driver for two weeks.
