College aim is to become outstanding
STUDENTS, parents and staff at Longdendale Community Language College have celebrated the publication of its latest Ofsted inspection report.
The college has been awarded an overall grading of "good", demonstrating the progress which has been made since the last inspection in 2006 when it received a "satisfactory" grade.
And the Ofsted report – produced following a visit by inspectors in March – uses the word "good" over 30 times to describe aspects of the college's work and effectiveness.
Acting headteacher Jen McIntosh said: "We want to work to ensure the excellent practice seen in some areas of the college's work becomes standard throughout.
"With the support we get from our governors, parents and carers, the excellent service and leadership given by our staff and the hard work and participation of our students, why shouldn't we aim to show ourselves as outstanding when the inspectors return in 2012?"
The full report is full of praise for the Tameside school, citing "well above average" standards attained by students, the "extensive range of extra curricular activities" and the "clear ambition" of staff at the school "to raise standards and to ensure that students have opportunities to develop their academic and personal skills".
Inspectors also commented on the overwhelming response from parents and carers to a confidential survey which was sent out just before the inspection – hundreds of surveys were returned, ensuring parental views were well represented and could be reflected in the final report.
Mrs McIntosh added: "We put a high premium on working in partnership with our parents and the wider community so getting a good response to the surveys was a priority.
"Who better to let the inspectors know what our strengths are and which areas could be further improved?"
Copies of the full report can be obtained from the college or the Ofsted website at www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports.
