Changes to help vulnerable

COUNCIL chiefs have announced plans to transform care for people with learning disabilities and autism.

Derbyshire County Council is proposing to build new apartments and specialist residential care centres for those with autism and learning disabilities.

The plan is the county council’s response to the Department of Health’s recent call for changes following the Winterbourne View scandal.

Winterbourne View, a private hospital near Bristol, made national headlines when an undercover BBC investigation exposed staff neglecting and abusing patients with learning disabilities.

The county council is to work with local NHS partners to develop the plan.

Further details will be announced later this year.
