Century-long party is carrying on

THE ANNUAL Wright Turner Party for the over-60s will be held in Hayfield on Saturday, March 14.

Celebrated for over a century, the event will take place at St Matthew's Church Hall.

Tea will be served at 4.30pm, followed by a concert in the church at 6.45pm by Hazel Grove Brass Band.

The party will be attended by High Peak Mayor and Mayoress, Robin and Linda Baldry, High Peak MP Tom Levitt and Hayfield May Queen royalty.

The Party is held in memory of Wright Turner, a former Hayfield who became Mayor of Sheffield. He held a party for the over-60s every year and left a bequest so that the parties could continue after his death.

Anybody requiring transport is asked to call Val Wieteska on 01663 746218.
