Cash to help pupils engage with music
HOPE Valley College has been awarded more than £20,000 to enhance musical opportunities for young people.
Funding from the Youth Musical Organisation will be used for a range of projects focusing on musical theatre and music technology.
They will explore composition, singing, songwriting, improvisation, soundscapes, orchestration, musical effects and recording techniques.
The college will work with local musician Ornette Clennon, Hope Valley Community Arts, and all its feeder schools. Some of the college's musical alumni will also return to work with youngsters.
Head of Music Jessica Bagnall said: "However much work musicians put into their work in lessons they cannot succeed as musicians without having a true love of music that they actively pursue outside the classroom.
"These projects will engage youngsters in music, giving them the opportunity to explore music and the chance to perform as well."
The long term goal of the bid was to secure a programme of extra curricular music in the valley.
The school hopes to provide a platform which can be built upon, with new equipment and encouraging the involvement of local musicians in the provision of extra curricular music.
Principal Bernie Hunter added: "We are delighted to have secured the funding so that we can really improve extra curricular musical opportunities throughout the whole valley."
