Body found in Derbyshire moorland treated as murder

A murder investigation has been launched after a man's body was found in a remote area of North West Derbyshire.

The body of the 34-year-old man from Rotherham was found on the moors off the A628 at Woodhead Tunnels at 11am on Monday, August 22.

A post mortem examination of the body was carried out by a Home Office pathologist yesterday. Officers are now treating his death as suspicious and have launched a murder enquiry.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Cooper, who is leading the investigation, said: “I’d like to hear from anyone who saw a vehicle, or anyone acting suspiciously, on the slip road off the A628 or the car park near Woodhead Tunnels at any time between 7am on Saturday August 20 and 11am on Monday August 22.”

Search teams are continuing to examine the scene and other enquiries are continuing both locally and in neighbouring forces.
