Fifty pupils and five staff members from St Thomas More School embarked on the trip, which included visits to The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, Thingvellir National Park and the Gulfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls.

The group also visited scientific attractions such as Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant and the Friðheimar greenhouse cultivation centre.

A school spokesperson said: “Although it was a little cooler than Buxton, the sun shone and Iceland revealed its beauty to the bedazzled group.”
