Balloon nearly went up at railway line

RESIDENTS on Ladycroft Avenue in Buxton were surprised to see a hot air balloon drifting towards their homes – and the Buxton railway line – on Sunday evening.

Eye witnesses Alan and Hilary Beswick, who captured the landing on camera, said: "We were initially concerned that the balloon would land on the railway line, as the pilot seemed to have to constantly use the burner, and it was still losing height as it drifted towards us.

"However, it eventually landed without incident on the wasteland close to the railway line. Probably not the ideal place to set down, and I think the pilot was a little lucky that the evening was still and not windy, but the landing was ultimately a good one."
