Attack by dog on girl

POLICE are appealing for help in tracking down the owner of a dog which attacked a two-year-old who was out shopping with her mother.

The little girl was shocked by the attack, which happened outside the Co-Op on Church Street, New Mills, although the bite did not break the skin and only caused bruising.

But Pc Leigh Gyte told the Advertiser that he was determined to find the dog to make sure that it did not attack again.

The dog, which was tied up outside the shop at the time, is described as medium-sized, old-looking, sandy brown with white around its neck.

Its owner is thought to be a white male in his late 40s, slimly-built with long dark hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a black three-quarter length coat.

After the incident, which happened between 4.30 and 4.45pm on February 20, he walked off along the Sett Valley Trail towards Furness Vale.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Pc Gyte on 0845 123 3333.
