Appeal after fatal crash

A 10-YEAR-OLD Buxton boy has died after the car he was travelling in was in collision with an ambulance in Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Bramwell, of Alma Street, was a rear seat passenger in a Ford Escort, being driven by his mum.

He was taken to Chesterfield Hospital and was later transferred to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield – but died from his injuries in the early hours of Sunday morning.

His mum, who suffered serious injuries, remains in Chesterfield Hospital.

The front seat passenger, Richard Barker, 42, from Tibshelf, sustained fatal injuries in the accident.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "The ambulance was conveying a patient to hospital but was not travelling under emergency conditions when the accident happened.

"Whilst we have no reason to think the driver of our vehicle was at fault, the Police are currently investigating the accident and so we are unable to make further comment about the circumstances.

"We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the relatives and friends of those involved at this very sad time."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which took place on the A619 Chandler Hill, Holymoorside, at about 3pm on Saturday.

* Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 919 Glynn on the witness appeal line, 01773 572929.
