All set for Hayfield's big day out

VISITORS will be treated to a watery-themed parade at the ever-popular Hayfield May Queen on Saturday May 9.

Organisers have been working hard behind the scenes for months to ensure the day goes without a hitch.

The theme 'All At Sea' is sure to have inspired the many local groups and organisations.

The procession will leave Primrose Court at 1.30pm and make its way through the village.

Expected to take part are Thornsett Band, The Boys' and Girls Brigade, New Mills Brass Band, The Northenden Pipe Band, the Billerettes, the Rising Stars Cheerleaders, Nordmanni Viking and Saxon Re-enactment Group, vintage vehicles, Chadkirk Dog Display Team, and even characters from Star Wars!

On the May Queen Field, there will be displays in the arena and the crowning of the 2009 May Queen Annie.

She will be joined by Princess Josie, Rosebud Holly and attendants.

Among the attractions will be a Viking camp on the May Queen Field with demonstrations of ancient skills.

The 99th Imperial Garrison, costumed Star Wars fans, will be making an appearance, and later hope to be available for photographs on the field, with all proceeds going to the NSPCC.
