A Buxton school has been presented with a defibrillator, thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local business.
Lightwood Dental donated £600 to Buxton Community School for the equipment, which then spurred the school on to fundraise for the remaining £600 needed.
Six members of school staff, and 30 students, will be trained to use the defibrillator, which is one of the only effective treatments for anyone suffering a cardiac arrest.
Dr Tony Cowan, of Lightwood Dental, said: “My youngest son Daniel’s best friend (Ben Obiora) sadly collapsed and died last year so we wanted to do something to help.”
Staff at the practice took part in sponsored walks and other activities and also collected donations from patients to help towards the total.
Headteacher Deb Hill added: “We’re really grateful for the fact this has been donated to school.
“It is always something in the back of your mind that can happen so it’s really positive that if something awful like that did happen on site we would have the equipment there to help.”
