FORMER England netball coach Liz Broomhead had a day to remember recently when she travelled to Buckingham Palace to collect her MBE.
Buxton-born Liz has spent more than four decades working to develop netball and encourage participation in the sport and her efforts were rewarded with an MBE for voluntary services to netball in the New Years Honours list.
And meeting Her Majesty the Queen was a special moment for Liz, who now lives in Hartington.
Describing her day at the Palace, she said: “There were 105 other recipients on the day from knights and dames to OBEs and MBEs as well as special recognition of bravery by the services.”S
he said everyone was made to feel welcome as they waited for their turn and the Queen to pin on their medals.
And after receiving her award and having photographs taken, Liz’s day was completed with a walk down The Mall and lunch before she headed “home with a head full of wonderful memories.”
