LETTER: Pub’s Remembrance Day gesture was commendable

I attended the Remembrance Service at Chapel Market Place.
As I crossed the road to go home I noticed that the Royal Oak pub on Market Street were offering free leek and potato soup and a shot of whiskey or rum to all their patrons as their way of marking this special day.
I was very impressed as so often the local pubs get bad press.
I would like to say thank you to the new management of the Royal Oak for the great improvements they have made to the pub, it is no longer the blot on the landscape that the brewery allowed it to become and I think that their Remembrance Day gesture is commendable.
Let’s hope the Kings Arms will soon have a new owner and rise from the ashes.
