Leisure centres set to hit target

IMPROVED leisure facilities, part of a £600,000 makeover of both Glossop and New Mills Leisure Centres, are on track for completion next month, right on schedule.

The 16-week overhaul by High Peak Borough Council and DC Leisure will deliver a mixture of refurbished and brand new facilities.

Crucially, the project has been planned to allow both centres to stay open throughout the improvement work.

Both Glossop and New Mills Leisure Centres will benefit from new, fully-modernised gyms plus state-of-the-art group exercise studios.

The dry changing area at New Mills is being converted into male and female changing rooms while the reception area will be extended and modernised. Part of the existing gym will be transformed into a disabled changing area while the rest of the current gym is being turned into a crèche and multi-use room.

The revitalised Glossop gym should be open early June, followed by the New Mills facility towards the end of the month.

• After 19 months without a pool residents in Buxton are still awaiting for a date for when the town’s facilities will reopen.

The much-delayed extensive refurbishment was originally expected to take six months when the pool closed in November 2009.

The Council were unable to state exactly when the pool will be handed back to them. Up to three weeks would be needed for cleaning and to sort out any problems before reopening to the public.
