An ancient lead mining ceremony has been reenacted for the first time in more than 25 years.

At Treak Cliff Cavern, in Castleton, the Jury foreman of the Peak District Barmote Court was presented with payment in the form of a ‘Freeing Dish’

The ‘dish’ is a wooden trencher approximately two feet long and six inches deep, which contains 65lb of lead ore.
