Last chance for community awards nominations

Have your say

THERE’S still time to nominate local heroes for Derbyshire County Council’s Excellence in the Community Awards 2011.

The authority wants to hear about exceptional people, groups and organisations that have worked tirelessly:

* to raise money for good causes

* as volunteers

* to protect and enhance the Derbyshire environment

* to make Derbyshire a safer place to work and visit

* to encourage closer, caring and active communities

* to promote Derbyshire through their sporting, musical, academic or artistic success

A prestigious ceremony will be hosted for winners at the Devonshire Dome, Buxton, on Monday October 17.

Individuals, groups, businesses, voluntary groups and charities that are improving the lives of others will be honoured at the awards, which are now in their fifth year.

Councillor Andrew Lewer, Leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: “Every day some amazing Derbyshire people help others across the county.

“This is our chance to recognise their hard work and dedication and I would urge people to nominate someone they feel is deserving of an award.

“We have already received many wonderful nominations for very worthy individuals and groups.

“Their efforts help to raise money, help us stay safe and look after the environment, putting Derbyshire on the map through their achievements.”

You can make your nominations at or Call Derbyshire 08456 058 058. Nomination forms are also available in libraries.

The awards are open to anyone over 18 years of age – the county council’s Derbyshire Young Achiever’s event recognises people under 18.

Closing date for nominations is Friday August 19.
