Jack's drive opens up the USA

TEENAGE golfer Jack Bingham is preparing to tee off on some of the USA's most prestigious golf courses.

Jack, 18, who plays at Disley Golf Club, has achieved a scholarship at the renowned University of South Carolina, Beaufort.

Even more remarkable is the fact that Jack, who is currently studying at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College's Sporting Academy, has only been playing golf since the age of eight – and suffers from dyslexia.

Tutor Alistair Hodgson said: "Personally, I'm delighted for him – he's a very pleasant young man who has a fantastic attitude but is also extremely modest.

"His achievements reflect his personal desire and it's just nice to see that somebody can achieve a long-term goal through the efforts and support of the Academy and his family."

Jack added: "I feel very privileged to have secured this scholarship in South Carolina and I have already visited the campus, viewed their superb facilities and attended some lessons. Now I can't wait to get started in August!"

During his four years at the University of South Carolina, Jack will study for a degree in Hospitality Management which if he ever develops a sporting injury, will open up many opportunities still connected with golf such, as arranging tournaments.
